THE SECOND SORROWFUL MYSTERY |
THE SCOURGING AT THE PILLAR |
Our Father... They led Jesus away to the high priest, and all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes came together. (Mark 14:53) Hail Mary... The chief priests and the entire Sanhedrin kept trying to obtain testimony against Jesus in order to put him to death, but they found none. (Mark 14:55) Hail Mary... The high priest rose before the assembly and questioned Jesus, saying, "Have you no answer? What are these men testifying against you?" But he was silent and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him and said to him, "Are you the Messiah, the son of the Blessed One?" (Mark 14:60,61) Hail Mary... Then Jesus answered, "I am; and 'you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of the Power and coming with the clouds of heaven.' (Mark 14:62) Hail Mary... At that the high priest tore his garments and said, "What further need have we of witnesses? You have heard the blasphemy. What do you think?" They all condemned him as deserving to die. Jesus said, "You say so." (Matthew 27:11) Hail Mary... Jesus answered, "My kingdom does not belong to this world. If my kingdom did belong to this world, my attendants (would) be fighting to keep me from being handed over to the Jews. But as it is, my kingdom is not here." (John 18:36) Hail Mary... So Pilate said to him, "Then you are a king?" Jesus answered, "You say I am a king. For this I was born and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice." (John 18:37) Hail Mary... Then Pilate took Jesus and had him scourged. (John 19:1) Hail Mary... Lord, grant them eternal rest and let perpetual light shine upon them. O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell. Lead all souls into heaven, especially those in most need of Thy Mercy. Continue Back to the Main Page |
