| Our Father... Now this is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about. When his mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, but before they lived together, she was found with child through the holy Spirit. (Matthew 1:18) Hail Mary... Joseph her husband, since he was a righteous man, yet unwilling to expose her to shame, decided to divorce her quietly. (Matthew 1:19) Hail Mary... Such was his intention when, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary your wife into your home. For it is through the holy Spirit that this child has been conceived in her. (Matthew 1:20) Hail Mary... "She will bear a son and you are to name him Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins." (Matthew 1:21) Hail Mary... All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: "Behold, the virgin shall be with child and bear a son, and they shall name him Emmanuel," which means "God is with us." (Matthew 1:22,23) Hail Mary... When Joseph awoke, he did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took his wife into his home. (Matthew 1:24) Hail Mary... In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that the whole world should be enrolled. (Luke 2:1) Hail Mary... And Joseph too went up from Galilee from the town of Nazareth to Judea, to the city of David that is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David, to be enrolled with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child. (Luke 2:4,5) Hail Mary... While they were there, the time came for her to have her child, and she gave birth to her firstborn son. She wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. (Luke 2:6,7) Hail Mary... And suddenly there was a multitude of the heavenly host with the angel, praising God and saying: "Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests."
